The man who has made an appearance on The Sportz Broz before has certainly earned his first encore performance. Brian Elliott recorded his third shutout win in a row last night with a 3-0 showing at home against Nashville.
The first clean sheet of the three was a shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings, but he still went a 65 minute game without giving up a single goal. He followed up that performance with 4-0 and 3-0 wins against the Coyotes and the Predators respectively. In that span he has faced 84 shots and stopped them all.
Here's his interview after the second shutout:
Right now the Blues goalie is making little above the League's minimum salary, though he's putting his team on his back, Greg Jennings style, willing his team's way toward first place in the league for the year.
And with the loss of Albert Pujols to the "big market" L.A. Angels this year, sports fans in St. Louis certainly lost a shining star of a player. But as one star fades into a red giant, another emerges to outshine its predecessor, as Brian Elliott has taken the Blues to unexpected heights this season. Could his work result in two World Championships in a row for the city of St. Louis?
Win or lose, today's #BotD Brian Elliott has solidified himself as a premier tender this season, and will certainly be seeing a pay raise sometime before he retires.
