Commercial(s) of the Day: Blake Griffin IS the Kia Optima

SBz Staff

Ever since the days of black and white television, NBA proz have been teaming up with corporations to bring TV watchers some of the funniest commercials since the invention of the mighty boob tube. Wilt Chamberlain's 1963 VW commercial, Michael Jordan's McDonald's campaign, Scottie Pippen's 6-foot Mr. Submarine "best meat around" spot, John Stockton's involvement (or mis-involvement) with Diet Pepsi - all were made classic by the respective NBA spokesmen taking time to earn an extra buck, sell a product, and churn a few smiles.

In present day, NBA broz have kept the ball rolling, killing the game of commercial hilarity without a doubt. Kevin Durant v. Doodle Jump - need we say more? Well, fortunately for us, yes.

One man has reigned supreme in the NBA commercial world: Blake Griffin. And one product has reaped the benefits: The Kia Optima.

The two entities made their marriage official in late June 2011 with a multi-year, undisclosed contract. However, the pair's global partnership commenced a year ago to the week, when Griffin caught an alley-oop from a sun-roof-breaching Baron Davis, jumping over the lid of a Kia Optima while a choir sang R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." It's been a hilarious pairing ever since...
