Meet "The Extermin8or"

Amateur poolplayers from around the country are headed to Tampa Bay this weekend to compete for the title of U.S. Amateur Champion. I had the pleasure of speaking with New Jersey's representative, Karen Freire, aka "The Extermin8or," this morning to talk billiards, as she heads to Tampa for the first time in her 14-year career, right on cue, ya dig?

A Jersey poolplayer has earned herself a rack at the U.S. National Amateur Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida this weekend, Nov. 5 and 6, 2011, where she will compete with the best female poolplayers in the country for the coveted title of U.S. Amateur Champion, and a chance to earn a spot in a Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) tournament.

35-year-old Karen "The Xtermin8or" Freire, aka "KK," has been competing for more than 14 years in Hudson County's American Poolplayers Association (APA) league on a weekly basis, she says. And this weekend, all of her hard work and determination over the table felt has finally come to fruition.

"I am determined and focused on bringing home that title," Karen Freire, said. "I hope to make my family proud and represent my region as best I can."

To earn this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Freire entered a three-day, U.S. Amateur Preliminary Tournament last month, held at Castle Billiards, Sept. 25 and 26 in Rutherford, NJ, where she went undefeated, pocketing ball after ball, extermin8ting local players en route to taking home the regional top honor and an invitation to Tampa, according to a press release.

Much luck to Karen in this weekend's tournament!
