CC Sabathia drops the Bomb(ers), opts out of $161M contract

NEW YORK – CC Sabathia intends to opt out of his seven-year, $161 million contract before Monday's deadline according to a report, which will make the Yankees' best pitcher a free agent.

The move, reported on Sunday night by si.com, was expected considering Sabathia's performance in his first three seasons and the dearth of elite level starting pitching available in this winter's free agent market. By opting out, Sabathia is walking away from the four years, $92 million remaining on the deal he signed with the Yankees before the 2009 season.
